Mayer Hawthorne breaks hearts at the Jefferson

Mayer Hawthorne, a crooning white guy in a dinner jacket whose music echoes the Stylistics and other soulful sounds of the 1960s, performed for an appreciative Monday night crowd at the Jefferson Theater. In addition to a Hall & Oates cover, Hawthorne kept them entertained April 23 with his own hits including "The Walk," which sounds like The Rascals' 1968 hit "It's a Beautiful Morning" with an f-bomb tossed in. And he also played his mega-hit (mega in the indie world at least) "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out" which has 3.2 million views on YouTube.
