The University of Virginia's 183rd Final Exercises will be held May 20 with a Lawn-centric ceremony begins featuring Katie Couric as commencement speaker. But in another major local speech development, this year's Independence Day celebration and naturalization ceremony at Monticello will feature Nadia Comăneci, the first Olympic gymastic to score a perfect 10 in a routine, something that happened in the summer of 1976, shortly before a soap-opera theme somehow became inextricably linked to her persona.
