South Street does lunch

Downtown just welcomed a weekend new weekend lunch option. Last Friday, July 6, South Street Brewery started serving lunch.

"We're running a limited soup, sandwich, and burger menu until 5pm Friday and Saturday, when our full dinner menu will begin," says long-time server and bartender Carolyn Cooper. "On Sundays, the kitchen will run the limited menu 11:30am until 9pm. We're pretty excited about it."

In case you haven't had a chance to check it out, the menu features a great looking Asian Chicken Salad with grilled marinated chicken, red peppers, scallions, cilantro, napa cabbage, carrots, black sesame seeds, fried wonton strips, and a sesame soy vinaigrette. In addition to big eight-ounce burgers, there's a grilled chicken sandwich and a smoked and braised pulled pork sandwich with red onion marmalade. Oh, and of course, there's the homemade beer.

So what took them so long?? They have decent food and great beers and a loyal following. Hard to believe that they would not be open during the lunch hours after all this time. I look forward to visiting them for lunch soon!

Great food and beer - I think weekday lunch and Sunday closings were a "quality of life" decision for their staff (same for holiday closings).
