I've always felt that Hawes was asking us to laugh at the "cartoonist" rather than the "cartoon." Look at it that way and you'll be picking yourself up off the floor every week.

Aren't cartoons supposed to be funny, or at least thought provoking? Ms. Sherman's offerings are seldom either.
