Young pedalers: Club's cycling challenge raises big bucks

For a small group of dedicated teen cyclists, Sunday, September 16 marked the end of a summer of grueling bike training as they took to the starting line at Old Trail Town Center for the 2012 Boys and Girls Club Cycling Challenge to ride 28-, 50-, or 75-mile courses. The dozen teens were joined by close to 350 local cyclists, and the event, which culminated in a poolside after-party featuring live music served another purpose: raising money– $85,000 this year– for the non-profit that provides a vast array of services to local youth. For a $35 annual membership, local youth can participate in after school programming, summer camps, and sports teams, as well as arts and cooking programs.

Why pay 35 bucks for after school programming when you can just let them watch tv?

Because "Somebody," riding a bicycle on local terrain builds muscle, sheds fat and develops character and a can-do attitude among the young -- more than can ever be achieved by being couch potato that morphs into a grouch potato.

Hahahahaha! What "Nobody" said!

Surely they're all cycling on no nose seats while they're being programmed.

Shirley Somebody, you could do better than "no nose seats." They ride traditional road bikes with traditional seats and do a great job at it. Try riding with them when you not trolling. Trust you won't get dropped like a bag of hammers.

Studies show that riding on traditional seats causes impotence in males, and encouraging male children to ride on them is therefore child abuse.

Oops forgot to mention sterility as well. Oh well, happy riding!

Somebody, please cite studies by name, date, organization or is your knowledge hearsay?

What do I look like, Mr. Belvedere? Do it yourself, I've got China to polish.

And why are our elected local government paying big bucks to the YMCA to destroy our "central park"?

A droll troll indeed!
