Coming up: Civil rights icons headline book fest

Civil rights legend Congressman John Lewis and Black Power Olympic medalist John Carlos are among the speakers coming to next spring's 19th Virginia Festival of the Book.

Lewis and Carlos will participate in a program called "American Icon" on Saturday, March 23, at the Paramount. Tickets to that event will go on sale in October.

The festival announced three other speakers for the March 20-24 bookathon. Betty Shotton, who graduated in UVA's first coed class, will be at the March 20 Leadership Breakfast. Historian Christopher Brinkley, author of Cronkite, headlines the March 21 Festival Luncheon, and C.J. Box speaks at the March 23 Crime Wave Brunch.

Tickets to those events go on sale September 20.
