Busted: after area-wide search, police track down Currier

Last Wednesday, October 17, The Albemarle County Police Department called on the public to aid in the search for a criminal wanted on four felony counts, including burglary, grand larceny, and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. The next day, Michael Nelson Currier (photo left) was in custody.

After being pulled over in his car on Milton Road, off of the Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Currier took off running on foot. County and State police, the U.S. Marshal Service, and the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office worked together in the search, and Currier was eventually located in a Farmville motel Thursday night.

"We're very pleased with the cooperation of so many agencies working together to arrest Michael Nelson Currier," says County Police spokesperson Carter Johnson. "Having spent a large portion of the day searching for Currier on Wednesday, it was nice to have him behind bars the very next day."

Johnson couldn't divulge what specific information they received that led to the arrest, but he said that help from the public was key. 

"Any time you have a convicted felon on the loose, there is some fear and concern in the community," says Johnson. "We asked the community to help us in our efforts to locate Currier and appreciate that cooperation. It makes our job easier when people are on the lookout and help us locate wanted subjects."

Currier is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.  His bond hearing is scheduled for this week in Albemarle County Circuit Court.
