November 20, late afternoon: Smith talks to father, Dean Smith, for 37 minutes.

November 20, after 5pm: Smith leaves home without sharing the evening's plan with roommate, Kash Carson, whose legal name is Andre Johnson

November 20, around 8pm: Carson calls Smith but phone goes straight to voice mail

November 21, around 8pm: Carson reports Smith missing to the Charlottesville Police around 8pm.

November 22: Police conduct first grid search of West Main Street on Thanksgiving Day including dumpsters and trash cans.

November 23: Police conduct second, expanded search of West Main Street

November 24: Police identify unknown phone number as belonging to Erik McFadden.

November 28: Police conduct grid search of West Main and 14th Street areas.

December 1: Police conduct search using cadaver sniffing dogs. Two days later, divers search a sediment pond behind UVA Outpatient Surgery Center.

December 17-21: Five day search of Old Dominion Landfill east of Richmond yields no evidence; will be continued in January.
