Biggest abduction case: Former UVA employee Matthew Rene Beaulieu, 27, pleads guilty to abduction with intent to defile May 27. He grabbed an 18-year-old UVA student, who fought him off and escaped, November 9 near Runk Dining Hall. According to K. Burnell Evans in the Progress, Beaulieu admitted to police he was tired of being alone after a breakup and wanted to make a woman "feel pain like he feels it." A butcher knife, dog collar, and nylon restraints were found in his car. Beaulieu could face life in prison and will be sentenced August 7.

Biggest supporter of the U.S. Supreme Court's DNA decision: Albemarle Sheriff Chip Harding, who was instrumental in getting Virginia's DNA databank off the ground, applauds SOTUS' okay of taking cheek swabs of felony suspects' DNA— and would like to see swabs taken from those arrested for misdemeanors.

Best news for Diantha McKeel: The independent candidate who wants to succeed Dennis Rooker as the Jack Jouett District representative on the Board of Supervisors has no Republican challenger, Sean Tubbs reports for Charlottesville Tomorrow.

Best news for church-parking-lot slayer's mom: Bethany Parr Sullivan, 56, the mother of former Culpeper cop Daniel Harmon-Wright, who was found guilty of manslaughter in the shooting of unarmed Patricia Cook, is sentenced to a five-year suspended sentence for forging a police entrance department exam five years ago, the Culpeper Star Exponent reports.

Best sign racism is alive and well: Seven vehicles and a house are vandalized the night of June 2 in Fry's Spring, NBC29 reports. One resident awakes the next morning to find "white power" spray painted on his truck.

Latest gunfire in a residential area: Police arrest 18-year-old Michael Brown in connection with an alleged May 29 drive-by shooting at Garrett and Fourth streets, the Newsplex reports. Brown is charged with robbery, felonious assault, and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Latest Orange teacher to get in trouble: Robert Jeffrey Kobman, 32, is arrested on 20 counts of child porn possession May 19, NBC29 reports. That same week, substitute teacher Laurie Millard, 49, is charged with six counts of assault and six of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Latest unreported income for the McDonnells: First lady Maureen McDonnell picked up $36,000 in consulting for the coal-funded Frances G. and James W. McGlothlin Foundation. Her husband, Governor Bob McDonnell, had reported her position with the charity as a paid trustee, income from which does not have to be reported under state law, but James McGlothlin says she was never named to the board. Another businessman friend of the McDonnells contributed $15,000 to their daughter's 2011 catering bill for her wedding, which also doesn't have to be reported under Virginia law. Newest park: City Council okays plans for a 42-acre site behind the Emmet Street Bodo's along Meadow Creek with more than a mile of trails, a disc golf course, a playground,  and a multi-use playing field, Aaron Richardson reports in the DP.

Worst Four Loko casualties: Harold Tazewell Morris II, 45, the guy who rammed his pickup into three vehicles, including an Albemarle police officer's, around High Street in March 2012, pleads guilty to four felonies and two misdemeanors May 27, the DP reports. Morris' blood alcohol level was 0.19 percent, and he said he drank two Four Lokos before hitting three different bars and drinking seven more beers.

Worst post-car-crash strategy: Anthony Wayne Martin, 34, allegedly runs into the woods after wrecking his car on Blenheim Road June 3. According to NBC29, Martin is charged with hit-and-run and driving with a revoked license.

Best get: South Africa-born Dave Matthews of the eponymous band will be the Fourth of July speaker at Monticello's annual naturalization ceremony.
