Biggest box: The Albemarle Board of Supervisors okays a 155,000-square-foot Costco at Stonefield in a 4-2 vote, with Ken Boyd and Petie Craddock voting against. Costco threatened to ditch Charlottesville if it couldn't be at Stonefield.

Biggest swing: The supes approve a resolution September 11 recognizing August 26 as Women's Equality Day and the 93rd anniversary of women's right to vote. The board shot down an earlier version last month.

Most tainted? Attorneys for Taybronne White, who's charged with first-degree murder in a 2011 triple slaying, ask that his charges be dismissed or evidence barred after Greene County evidence custodian James Shifflett is convicted of felony embezzlement, including pilfering money from sealed evidence bags in White's case. White is accused of killing Charlottesville residents Brian Robert Daniels, 26, Dustin Tyler Knighton, 25, and Lisa Hwang, 26, who were found dead along a Greene road. K. Worst: Thirteen-year-old Alexandra Babaevadies of Richmond dies September 15 after falling off a cliff near Humpback Rocks at the Greenstone Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway, where she was picnicking with family and friends, according to the News Virginian.

Worst crash: Randy Lee McKinstry, 18, dies September 10 when his motorcycle slams into a GMC Yukon on East Rio Road that was turning left into Pen Park. Police say speed was a contributing factor, and this is the sixth traffic fatality in Albemarle this year.

Worst accidental shooting of a STAB grad: Kathleen Battle, 21, of Nellysford, is wounded in the leg in Farmville September 15 by a fellow Longwood University student as he unloads a gun. Jacob E. Richardson, 22, of Glen Allen, is charged with reckless handling of a firearm.

Worst Craigslist date: Convicted sex offender Nathaniel Lamb is arrested September 12 and charged with rape and abduction with intent to defile after he allegedly picked up a woman for some role playing, raped her twice in his green Dodge Ram truck, and sent her in to Harris Teeter, where she collapsed in the store August 28, according to the Progress.

Busiest time to pull a heist: John Adolf Reich, 49, is charged with robbing the SunTrust bank in the Rio Hill Kroger shortly before 5pm September 16. Customers buying groceries seemed unaware of the incident, Bryan McKenzie reports for the DP, and Reich is arrested four hours later in Crozet.

Most tickets: Virginia State Police are out in force on the commonwealth's interstates September 14, and cite 1,008 speeders and 255 reckless drivers. Sixty-two drivers get summonses for not buckling up, one gets a DUI and nine are arrested in the drug/felony category.

Most like the Wild West: A woman fires a gun in the air September 12 after a fight that began in a Prospect Avenue apartment takes to the street. Arrested are brothers Christopher Jermaine Hall, 23, and Marcus Wayne Hall, 27 along with Jamar Douglas Cutchin, 28, and Charles Lenny France, 26, and Treneice Sierra Hill, 25, both of Newport News, according to the Daily Progress.

Best revenue generator for Nelson: The Lockn' festival brings the county $1.6 million in tax revenues, and hospitality-related businesses profit from the 25,000 festivalgoers streaming into the area the weekend after Labor Day. However, festival organizers lose money and haven't decided whether to have another large festival in Nelson County next year. Nate Delesline has the story in the DP.

Best news for frequenters of the Haven: No one else has tested positive for tuberculosis following exposure last month.

Best sniffing: Nero, Buckingham Sheriff Office's K-9 cop, picks up the scent of two men who allegedly stiff and rob a cab driver September 9. Arrested are Akeem Cornelius Kimbrough and Brandon Lamar Thomas.

Biggest (non-local) celeb sighting: Britney Spears is spotted on the Corner September 13, shopping at Finch and possibly lunching at the Biltmore, according to the Newsplex.
