Kiplinger kudos for UVA

According to Kiplinger, the University of Virginia offers the third best bang for the buck in 2011 in a list of 100 colleges that "deliver a stellar education at an affordable price."

"Two Virginia schools deserve special Kiplinger kudos for consistently maintaining their position among our top five since our first rankings, in 1998," write Kiplinger's editors. " The University of Virginia (No. 3) and the College of William and Mary (No. 4) each draw high-scoring incoming freshmen and post the highest four-year graduation rates on our list, delivering degrees to more than 80% of their students in four years and more than 90% in six. UVA also brings its cost after aid to students with need to less than $6,000."

In addition, Kiplinger says that UVA has the highest graduation rates among those that were ranked and offers the "most generous need-based financial aid."

And one may wonder about students who neither qualify for aid nor as being 'with need'. Realistic numbers rather than suggestions of impressions might make Kiplinger's evaluation more impressive.

See the sad thing about most UVA grads, is in about 50 years they’re gonna start doin' some thinkin' on their own and they’re gonna come up with the fact that there are two certainties in life. One, don't do that. And two, their parents dropped thousands of dollars on an education they coulda' got for a dollar fifty in late charges at the Jefferson Madison Regional Library.

Tim Brown is obviously an autodidact who doesn't/didn't need to be led by the nose through a slew of 101 survey courses to figure out who he is and what he wants.
He's absolutely right. A vast education is available for pennies for anyone with the self-confidence to pursue a self-directed life.
I applaud him.

The best value of all, and easiest path to enter UVA- attend Piedmont Virginia Community College for 2 years and graduate with a degree from UVA.

" In 2006 the University established a guaranteed admission program for students graduating with an Associate's degree from any VCCS institution. Specific information about admission criteria for the guarantee plan can be found here."
