Sex ring: Couple arrested for alleged pimping

A twenty-something-year-old couple allegedly had a 36-year-old woman turning tricks for them in Abbington Crossing Apartments, according to an Albemarle police release. An anonymous caller tipped off police.
Pablo Castro, 28, and Sandra Morales, 22, have both been charged with one felony count for receiving money or other valuables for the purpose of unlawful sexual intercourse. He's being held on $10,000 bond; Morales has a $5,000 bond.
Gisela Martinez, 36, was charged with one count of prostitution, a misdemeanor, and released. She told police she was brought to the apartment in the 700 block of Lords Court from Washington to service men.
In June 2009, Albemarle police busted another prostitution ring on Commonwealth Drive that employed a woman from D.C.
"I don't know if it's coincidental," says Sergeant Darrell Byers.

Dawg, I agree with you. I'd even go as far as to say that prostitution is a victimless crime (as long as everyone involved is a consenting adult), and shouldn't be illegal at all.

Atleast she was released and not put in jail. These women don't willingly get involved with prostitution. The bail should be a lot higher for the men who were profiting from this crime.

Soooo....why do they both get charged with the same thing, but the guy's bond gets arbitrarily set twice as high as the lady's? Is it a legally accepted tenet that men are just worse than women?

I've always been suspicious of the Moe Howard look, and this just confirms it. And the fact that he ain't American is just icing on the cake. Consider me non-silly, albeit badly-informed.

At least prostitution is only a misdemeanor. It really ought to warrant no more than a traffic ticket. Given the state of the economy, look for more women to be out there as "freelance" prostitutes.
