The ghost bike that stood as silent witness to the April 19 accidental death of bicyclist, UVA graduate student, religious philosopher, and homeless shelter volunteer Matthew Steven King, has been removed. The oily remnants of the tribute candles that had surrounded the original tribute remain on the sidewalk at the corner of 4th and West Main Streets.

Clarified at 9;40am Saturday, August 28 to replace "Grease stains from some of the offerings" to "The oily remnants of the tribute candles..." (thanks to a commenter for the assistance!)

Umm -- maybe it was a green light?

And I think Mr. King was traveling E-W, not S-N as this cyclist is shown doing.

erratum: N-S.

Did we really expect it to remain forever?

It was removed at least 2 months ago. So...where did it go?

If you know me you know I am anything but racist. Actually I would argue Arlen is racist to assume I was referring to a specific ethnic group. Look-up the definition of hoodlum in the dictionary. The term hoodie, hoodlum or whatever you call them refers to a young criminal. Someone that would steal a bike is likely young and by definition a criminal.

Have you even driven around Charlottesville and noticed young kids checking the bike racks for unlocked bikes? Have you even noticed kids downtown riding bikes that are clearly too big for them? Those kids are most likely hoodies.

Did one of the hoodies steal it or did the city take it down?

Isn't it more likely that those "grease stains" are wax residue from tribute candles?

NOTE: notice the what the biker is doing illegally, they are supposed to STOP at all stop bars. is she? no! this is why there was a ghost bike there.
