Lydia's obit in the NYT today is a wonderful tribute to a woman who brought a lively presence to the often boring scholarhship of art history .

Zany Lydia with the red hair will be missed, and luckily, her spunky art will live on. Once, while lecturing, the story goes, she saw a young co-ed in the hall sound asleep; calling out to her she said, dear, you must be tired and need a rest, and so she stopped the lecture and dismissed the class, so the girl could retire to her bed.
