UVA baseball plays to survive in primetime

news-uvabaseballThe Virginia Cavaliers baseball team won its first-ever College World Series game yesterday against perennial diamond powerhouse Cal State-Fullerton, 7-5. This eliminates Fullerton from the double-elimination style tournament, revenge for last year when the Titans ousted the 'Hoos from the regional round. Now, coach Brian O'Connor's team will once again fight for its life in Omaha, this time in primetime. The Cavs take on the Arkansas Razorbacks on Wednesday, June 17 at 7pm eastern time on ESPN2. The winner of that contest will take on the LSU Tigers, who already beat UVA in the opening round, 9-5.

I've never seen the town so excited about a sporting event. Everyone I met last evening said "Did you hear the baseball team won". I still believe baseball is the sport most loved by Americans. Way to go Cavs --keep it up !

rock it hoos

This team just doesn't get it, do they?

They weren't supposed to survive the Regionals, yet they failed to even lose a single game and beat the #1 team in the country. Twice.

They weren't supposed to survive the Super Regional with Mississippi, and cooperated by losing the first game. But then they blew it again and made their way to Omaha.

Now they find themselves in the Loser's bracket at the College World Series. That's probably the toughest possible situation to be in in college sports - the CWS double elimination brackets are set up to give losers a chance, but not much of one. One more loss, and out. Should they beat Arkansas tomorrow, they then need to win TWO in a row against LSU, arguably the strongest team in the country with the most mature, pro-ready pitcher left playing. So Virginia needs to win three in a row to advance, while LSU needs to win just one. But Virginia seems to do extremely well in elimination games this year!

If Virginia ignore logic again and can with the next three games, it will be very, very hard for whoever they play in the finals (Texas?) to take them out.

Don't be surprised if they make it happen!

Game Day --let's all send positive energy to the Cavs

They seem to do better with negative energy.

So exciting Dan Grovatt just hit a " monster home run over the left field wall "- bottom of the eighth Virginia 3-1 --hope they can hang on
