UVA IM chief Mark Fletcher dies suddenly

news-markfletcherMark Fletcher, the affable UVA administrator who oversaw key aspects of major concerts at Scott Stadium and built the university's intramural sports program into a nation-leading juggernaut in which 94 percent of students participate, died June 8 after a morning run. UVA chief operating officer Leonard Sandridge hails the 57-year-old Fletcher as "simply the best."

Although I knew Mark only briefly, he had a quality about him rarely encountered. I will remember his kindness, willingness to listen, and consider carefully what he had heard. Not rushing to judgment, but seeking the middle way. I am sure those who knew him well will carry these qualities on in the world as I will also try to do.

I went to high school with him. What a great man. You will be missed.
Had wonderful times with him and still have wonderful memories

What a very nice man, this is quite sad. My best wishes to his wife and family. He was truly one of the very best people I have ever dealt with at the University.
