Mall project dedicated, Norris hands out bricks

news-norris-mallCharlottesville Mayor Dave Norris, with City Councilor Satyendra Huja beside him, stands in the shadow of the unfinished Landmark Hotel as he begins the dedication ceremony for the completion of the Downtown Mall re-briking project today. A marching band was supposed to play, but sudden showers chased them away. Norris handed out original Mall bricks to a long list of folks responsible for the new Mall project, and the original one, including former city manager Cole Hendrix, state delegate David Toscano, ex-councilor Meredith Richards, and at least seven or eight folks who didn't show up.

Kudos - the perfectly composed news shot! Celebrating the completed Downtown Mall re-bricking in the shadow of the seriously incomplete hotel.

The photo combined with the last clause of the last sentence pretty much sums things up. Good job.

Superb photo/story combo. Superb!

With such a beautiful event as celebration, I'm just sorry the project didn't cost a few million more to live up to the spectacle.

Still can't believe they gave up the one of a kind " Halprin Mall" for this boring design.

Many things in Charlottesville are done well, but I do believe it would be an excellent idea to have a fiscal conservative who is also environmentally conscious and understands maintenance and infrastructure on Council. There is also a desperate need for someone who will challenge staff and not back down, but call on citizens to support them. Staff has a growth agenda and is often in line with the county and not the city residents interests. It is in their interest to promote bigger government = more staff, more power, higher salaries.
