Zimmerman's hit streak ends at 30

news-zimmermanIt was good while it lasted, but Washington Nationals third baseman and UVA alum Ryan Zimmerman's hitting streak ended on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 13 at 30 games. Zimmerman went 0-for-3 with two walks on the road against the San Francisco Giants. After the game, Zimmerman tipped his figurative cap to New York Yankees centerfielder Joe DiMaggio and his record-setting 1941 streak, when he told reporters, "It makes you realize how much better 56 is than 30." Zimmerman's streak ties him for the 35th-longest in history with the likes of Hall of Famers Tris Speaker and Stan Musial. On the bright side for Nats fans, Washington did beat the Giants 6-3.
