UVA women beat Marist, face Cal tonight

Despite a late game surge from the Red Foxes, the UVA women's basketball team managed to hold off Marist 68-61 in their opening round game of the NCAA Tournament. First-year guard Ariana Moorer led the Cavaliers with 16 points. Tonight, the 'Hoos take to the court in Los Angeles again to square off against the Golden Bears of the University of California at Berkeley. Tipoff is at 9:30pm eastern time, and the game will air on ESPN2. The winner of this game will likely take on the as-yet undefeated Connecticut Huskies, who take on the eighth-seeded Florida Gators on Tuesday, March 24.

I encourage anyone considering living donation to please educate themselves first. Do not rely on the transplant center; their concern is healing the sick patient, and that is the recipient, not the donor.

There is NO comprehensive long-term data about living donors' health and well-being. They simply do not KNOW if donating an organ is completely safe. Until 2006, there were NO rules or oversight at all for living donor transplant programs.

Studies indicate LDs can suffer from bleeding, blood clots, hernias, intestinal binding, testicular swelling, hypertension, reduced adrenal gland function, chronic fatigue and severely reduced kidney function, just to name a few.

LDs can also suffer depression, anxiety and PTSD-like symptoms, yet there is no support or aftercare available at transplant centers.

Living donors are routinely denied health and life insurance post-donation. Some living donors have ended up on the transplant waiting list themselves.
