Monticello visitor Khatami runs for Iranian presidency

Former Iranian president Mohammed Khatami announced today that he will run to unseat his more conservative successor, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and serve another term as Iran's head of state. Khatami made local headlines in 2006 when his visit to Monticello shut down the entire estate for three hours one September Saturday morning, provoking the ire of many out-of-town visitors who had come to take tours that day.
