Barker's gift to UVA
UVA Law may be going to the dogs, and if it does, there'll only be one man to thank: Bob Barker, longtime host of The Price is Right. According to a UVA news release, Barker– who founded an animal abuse prevention nonprofit in 1995– has given the law school $1 million to establish an animal law program. Barker has given similar gifts to at least seven other law schools including Harvard, Duke, Georgetown and Columbia. In addition to enabling the creation of a formal course on animal law, Barker's gift will also pay for speakers on topics within animal law as well as funding study opportunities and a writing program open to all UVA graduate students. Animal lovers, come on down!

Gotta give Bob credit for putting his money where his mouth is. Also, in the recent past UVA had a very active Disciples of Bob Barker club. They gathered regularly to play pricing games, and took a road trip en masse to LA to see the show in person. I seem to recall one of them actually getting onto the show. I wonder if that influenced his gift?
Only fitting BARKER would be interested in animal rights -- does he specify dogs?
Good lord...just what we need, more lawyers. Could Michael Vick be a guest lecturer at one of those classes? I like Bob, but he should have given money to educating the dimwits in the cheap, home-made t-shirts who go on his show...all the great activities in LA and here is an audience of boobs who want to spend two hours trying to guess the price of Comet Cleanser. Didn't Ted Kennedy (the Shemp of the Kennedys...the Fredo Corleone of the Kennedys) go to UVa Law? Maybe there should be a grant for research into making Oldsmobiles more amphibious coming from his estate!
NO ONE LOVES ANIMALS BETTER THAN I DO, BUT THERE HAS TO BE A LIMIT TO ALL OF THIS GIVING IN TIMES LIKE THIS.
JOHN KLUGE HAS GIVEN LOTS OF MONEY ALONG WITH BEAUTIFUL HISTORICAL ESTATES TO UVA AND ALL THEY DID WAS SELL THE ESTATES AND GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE MONEY. WE REALLY NEED TO THINK ABOUT WHAT WE ARE ALLOWING THE UNIVERSITY/CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE TO DO WITH ALL THE MONEY.
PERSONALLY, I FEEL THESE DONATIONS FOR SPORTS AND RESEARCH NEEDS TO BE MONITORED VERY CLOSELY TO MAKE SURE THE MONEY GOES WHERE IT IS SUPPOSE TO....WE LOVE OUR ANIMALS AND TO THINK THEY WOULD BE ABUSED ON A RESEARCH PROJECT AT UVA MAKES MY HEART HURT FOR THEM.I KNOW SOMEWHAT HOW THE POOR ANIMALS WERE TREATED IN THE 60'S AT UVA AND NOW DAYS WHEN NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE ABOUT THE FELLOW MAN, MUST LESS THE ANIMALS, TELLS ME BOB BARKER MIGHT HAVE MEANT WELL BUT DOES HE REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT LOVING THE ANIMALS IS ALL ABOUT? STOP AND THINK. HE COULDN'T CARE ABOUT THE HOMELESS, ELDERLY, AND HANDICAP OR THE MONEY WOULD HAVE GONE TO HELP THE HUMANS AND THEY COULD MAKE A JUDGEMENT CALL ON THIS RESEARCH IDEA AT THE HOSPITAL AND THIS ALSO GOES FOR ALL THIS OBSESSION WITH SPORTS AT UVA. DOWNTOWN CHARLOTTESVILLE HAS LOST ALL THE HERITAGE DUE TO THE LACK OF KNOWLEDGE AS TO WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THEIR TAX PAYERS MONEY. SO TO BOB BARKER I SAY HE KNOWS NOT WHAT HE HAS DONE EXCEPT ACCOMPLISH A HANDSOME TAX RIGHT OFF FOR HIMSELF.
