Speed trap alert
Albemarle police warn lead-footed motorists that they'll be enforcing the speed limit and other rules of the road starting Monday, November 17, in a week-long crackdown on Seminole Trail, a.k.a. U.S. 29 north, between Hydraulic and Airport roads.

Yet another fine benefit of reading The Hook: speed trap avoidance!
While rolling through one of the other most recent crackdowns, I noticed there was more unmarked police cars present than there was marked police cars. I found this pretty ironic since Chief Miller stated back in 1997 that he was seriously contemplating not using unmarked cars for traffic enforcement any longer. He went on to say the public was in grave danger if they couldn't determine a car attempting to stop them was indeed a real police car. This press release of course came after one of his green-behind-the-ears rookies falsely arrested a Greene County deputy sheriff for impersonating a police officer, with the police department so conveniently describing the vehicle the deputy sheriff was driving as "an unmarked police car". I guess his press release was simply to divert attention from the mistake they had made? I absolutely love the antics that go on in this city and county!

At least now everyone knows what I have grown to know over the last 30 years.....Some of these police officers are idiots! Some of them don't even know half of the laws that they are supposed to be enforcing! And unless you are related to them or a friend to them you are'nt getting very much protection either. I mean the only time they show up in my neighborhood is if someone over 50 calls them to complain about a noise they heard outside or "I saw a bunch of teenagers standing on the corner". Jeeeez give me a break!!!!!

The Fraternal Order of Police claims it's because of reduced standards, poor training and promotion of less experienced officers into the higher police ranks. I agree 100%.

I hate to appear as an alarmist, but the sooner people learn to serve criminals free coffee and donuts and fear the police, the better off they will be. Here's a few examples....
1 - In February of 2008, 16-year-old Daniel Castillo, Jr. was killed in a police raid on his family's home in Texas. Castillo had no criminal record. A SWAT officer broke open the door to the bedroom as Castillo, his sister, and her infant son were sleeping. When Castillo rose from the bed after being awoken to his sister's screams, the SWAT officer shot him in the face.
2 - In March, police in Spring Lake, Minn., acting on an informant's tip, raided the home of Brad and Nicole Thompson. The couple was forced on the ground at gun point and warned by an officer, "If you move, I'll shoot you in the f___ing head." Police had the wrong house.
Wow, out of a sample size of many thousands of police activities, you find two example of misconduct and imply that means something. It doesn't.
That's because that guy needs to get a life. Any time the "P" word comes up on this site, he empties his arsenal of nationwide police corruption articles and local goings-on and rumors/stories from years ago. Do you think that anyone on here takes you seriously? I do read what you post because it is so predictable and more often-than-not, humorous. Oh, I forgot to mention -- its Friday and you need to bring up the wheelchair incident and the cop almost running over the drunk on Water Street. We need you to remind us of these things because we soon forget about the few instances that the local police make mistakes around here. They are human and they make mistakes too. If they were as incompetent as you suggest, you would have a new story for us weekly.
Why don't you ask The Hook to set up a special little Criminal Justice section and I can bring you a minimum of at least 25 new stories of police corruption and wrongdoing EVERY week. I ust warn you that some of these tales will be totally despicable and beyond comprehension by most of the decent honest hard working and taxpaying citizens in this country. Like the 60 year old Charlottesville Police detective who was recently taken into custody for sexual assault of a juvenile.
Funny you should mention a "drunk" on Water Street. It was actually 2 pedestrians who were almost seriously maimed or injured by a Charlottesville Police Department jeep, not one. And neither pedestrian was ever convicted of any of the criminal charges, including the BS charge of being intoxicated in public and public swearing. The female was also cleared of the BS criminal charge of obstructing justice. I called the outcome of these cases months before they ever went to trial. Most competent judges can see through the wool pulled over their eyes.

You are correct, but only in the fact that the two examples mean nothing to some people. But most people realize that the 16-year-old kid who was shot in the face and killed with a high power assault weapon could have been their son, brother, or close friend in this police-raid-gone-bad. I don't care if the kid was an F student and dropped out of school, he didnt deserve to be shot in the face and killed for simply sitting up in bed and wondering what the heck was going on. You can relax though, the killing will be ruled justifiable because it was a cop involved. I would give up my next born child just to see the reports the cops wrote up in order to justify this murder.
Most people also realize they are no longer secure in their castles when the police can kick the door down on a wrong address and put honest law abiding citizens on the floor with threats of shooting them in the "f__king head" if they move a muscle, another police-raid-gone-bad!
I only gave 2 examples because I am sure The Hook doesn't want to take up the space to give 2,000 examples. Don't even get me started on the 92-year-old woman who was shot and killed in Atlanta, Georgia. The police-raid-gone-bad where reports were intentionally fabricated by cops to justify the murder of this woman. The police lied to get the search warrant, they lied about her shooting and wounding two cops, and they lied about marijuana being present in the house after THEY actually planted it! This could have been your grandmother, but it means nothing, right?
