Springsteen to play JPJ
Yes, it's true...the Boss is coming. Billboard is reporting that Bruce Springsteen's 2008 tour schedule includes a stop at the John Paul Jones area on April 30, the last show on his schedule. And it's been a long time coming. November 17, 1974 was the last time the Boss visited Charlottesville, when the then 25-year-old played to a packed Mem Gym just nine months before Born to Run was released. According to a Cavalier Daily review of the show, the crowd was whipped into a frenzy by Springsteen's high-energy stage performance. Over 30 years later, it appears the Boss is still whipping up a frenzy. Billboard reports that the fall tour in the U.S. grossed $27.8 million and sold out 14 of the 18 shows. But will the Boss succeed where The Police did not? ~~ Update: John Paul Jones arena confirms with a press release at 5:28pm.

I have absolutely nothing against the Boss. I have a great appreciation for him and the music he has put out over the decades. This was just the last straw for me.
My point is that we seem to be catering to an older crowd and ignoring the younger generations.

It's always a question of economics. How much are people willing to pay for a ticket to pay for the expensive younger bands to perform here? $25 won't make it.

Rhetorical question? Probably a one-hour sellout. There's only one Bruce - while The Police may have been one of the best acts to come out of one of the worst decades of popular music, the Boss is one of the best acts to come out of the 20th century.
Can we PLEASE get some new music here?!?! Is Charlottesville just one big retirement home now? What about all of the college students and young people that want to see music that they listen to now- not music their parents listened to when they were young?

I saw the Boss with the E Street band in 1986 when I was about 15 years old. I'd love to relive that experience. It was one of the most memorable concerts of my pre-adult life.
For the Love of God is not an idiot but is merely pointing out that there is an age group in Charlottesville that lacks a live music outlet for its interests. Unfortunately, Love chose the wrong example to complain about.

While we appreciate your passion for Bruce, please refrain from personally insulting people who post on the Hook news blog, especially when they are just stating an opinion. As Cville Eye points out, Love of God actually makes a good point, one worth discussing. Actually, Kathy, you were making excellent points as well, until you began hurling personal insults.
