PHOTOPHILE- Barbed comments: Ehrenreich speaks truth to power

She may not have been preaching to the choir. But on Thursday, February 2, author Barbara Ehrenreich, America's undercover expert on the difficulties of living on a minimum wage, spoke to a large crowd at Farmington Country Club.

Over 280 people turned out for the Junior League of Charlottesville's second annual Author Dinner fundraiser to hear the best-selling author of Nickel & Dimed and Bait & Switch talk about what it means to be working poor or jobless in America.

The League hosted the event to raise both money and awareness for the plight of the poor. Tickets to the event, sponsorships, and a silent auction all helped to raise thousands of dollars to assist the one in four people living below the poverty line in Charlottesville.

Ehrenreich thanked the guests for giving, but reminded everyone that both actions and money are needed. She made a point of recognizing the evening's servers, remembering her own stint in similar jobs researching Nickel & Dimed.
