LETTER- Chiropracters know their limits

"Dr. Hook" talks ["Back up: Get bones lined up right," May 4] of some chiropractors who claim to cure everything from AIDS to the common cold. While some chiropractors choose to limit their practice to the episodic treatment of low back pain, many, including myself, take a more broad view focusing on the overall health of an individual and the proper function of the nervous system. Many in the medical world promote this attack on chiropractic in an attempt tomislead the public and prevent many from enjoying the health benefits of full spectrum chiropractic care.

More information on this and similar topicscan be found by searching for aSupreme Court ruling in 1987, which exposed the American Medical Association and found them guilty of an illegal conspiracy andattempt to destroy the chiropractic profession.

I'm not saying it has never happened, but I have never heard a chiropractor claim to "cure" anything!

Chiropractic recognizes that the body is a self healing and regulating organism. Secondly, the nervous system is what communicates between the brain and body and controls everything (see Gray's Anatomy).

Interference to and stress in the nervous system affects the ability of the body to function properly. Chiropractors remove interference in the nervous system (known as subluxation), and, as a result, the body can begin to function properly, and improved healthis usually the result.

This is a big difference from claiming to cure anything. You know what's crazy? The notion that the intelligence that created our body forgot to put an aspirin or celebrex dispenser inside.
