PHOTOPHILE- Skeet-daddle: Pistol club hosts gun fun

Ready! Aim! Fire!

You've no doubt heard at the end of a TV or radio crime report, "Anyone with information is urged to call Jefferson Area Crimestoppers." That's the group that offers rewards for information leading to the arrest of wanted suspects.

On Saturday, May 13, the Rivanna Rifle & Pistol Club hosted "Take Another Shot at Crime" to benefit the organization. About 30 beginners and pros hoisted shotguns to their shoulders and took aim at clay targets.

Newcomer Ben Freudberg, 16, was practicing his skills for the second time. "Ben tried skeet shooting on a trip and fell in love with it," his dad, Dan, said. "We heard about this event and thought it was a good way to let him do it again."

Since Woodbrook Sports and Pro Shop donated the ammo and targets, the entire $600 in proceeds went to Crimestoppers, which made chairman Raymond Klein very happy.

"We need funds to continue to get information on criminals and criminal activity," says Klein. "Events like this help us get those funds while educating the community on what we do."

Not to mention ridding the world of another pesky flock of clay pigeons.
