Your publication deserves kudos for forcing readers to attend to the animal cruelty situation [May 18 cover story: "Claws and effect: Bentivar shooting sparks outrage"]. Perhaps now the politicians in Richmond will take heed, and Carmen's death will not be in vain.

Our condolences go to the Wintersteigers. Losing a beloved pet is losing a family member.
