LETTER- It's all ego

As an architect and a veteran of an architecture school (read: agenda indoctrination centers), I can spot an architectural agenda from the next galaxy. David McNair may not be aware [On Architecture, May 11, 2006, "Gulf Coast rebuild: Form should follow function"]– and I regret to inform him– that architects in general (and academic ones even more so) are all about ego.

The tell-tale quote in his article: "I came up with some schematic designs, then handed them off to my students." The students wouldn't dare come up with something from their own creative minds lest they be excommunicated from architecture school forever.
However, the gist of the article was correct. The Gulf Coast is the new front line in the architectural agenda wars.
