LETTER- Treating Mother kindly

Your September 28 news story, "Mother, say I: Monk sees vision in Nelson," was a breath of fresh air in the midst of increasingly negative news about the state of our world. While the writer had no prior experience with Synchronicity or the subject of spirituality and human destiny, the story reflects a genuine curiosity and openness to a highly unusual and unprecedented experience and opportunity.

As one of those interviewed for the article, I was particularly impressed with Vijith Assar's attention to detail and his willingness to listen to the personal testimonies of those of us who experience the Blessed Mother apparition directly on a daily basis. It would have been too easy for him to fall prey to satire and derision; it's a credit to his intelligence, skill, and sensitivity that he chose to report honestly and directly about this most amazing event.

By and large, journalism today reflects the darkness of current events and the pessimism of jaded readers. It's heartening to see that there is one Charlottesville publication that reflects the light.
