MY RIDE- Gary Hoffman: 2001 BMW X5

With a bike rack firmly affixed to his bumper, Gary Hoffman, a track racing enthusiast, uses his car's extra cargo space to stash tires and various bike parts.

Hoffman points out that his automatic "SAV" (sports activity vehicle) gets better mileage than many SUVs– about 20 miles per gallon. And in addition to the efficiency, it has plenty of pull power. Hoffman usually totes between three and four different bikes, sometimes all at once. 

"Variety," smiles Hoffman, "is the spice of life."
