QUESTION OF THE WEEK- How did you learn about local schools closing for segregation 50 years ago?

Niall Reid:"I'm from Ireland, and I didn't know it happened here specifically, but I heard it had happened in the South."


   

Mason McGruder:"I was born in '52, so I can't remember. But I did go to Jefferson. I'm not sure if Venable was closed when I went to school or not."


   

Eleanor Butner:"I went to a segregated school growing up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and I learned about it happening here when I started teaching here in 1972."
