Roughly 100 supporters of Sen. John McCain's (R-AZ) bid to become the 44th President of the United States turned out to Albemarle Republican headquarters in Albemarle Square to meet McCain's 96-year-old mother Roberta. Though she knew she was preaching to the choir, Mama McCain couldn't help but "brag a little bit about my son."

"This man," she said, "is prepared tomorrow to go take care of a crisis. There's not going to be any on-the-job training."

But McCain's primary purpose for being in Charlottesville was to thank all the local volunteers as part of the "Victory and Volunteer Appreciation Tour."

"I cannot thank you enough," she said. "It makes me feel so good to be in a room full of people who all want the country going in the right direction."
