LETTER- NASCAR should bag restrictor plates

RE: the January 28 Sports Doctor, "Bump and grind, NASCAR rules jeopardize safety":

From one who was raised in Martinsville, where old school NASCAR was alive and well in the 70s and earlier, I think NASCAR was a heck of a lot safer and more interesting when you were allowed to drive what you showed up driving.

The big wrecks started when NASCAR thought it was a good idea to put restrictor plates on the cars to level the playing field, supposedly to make it safer, but we all thought it was to give all the advertising companies equal coverage during a telecast.

If they would go back to racing the way it used to be, it would be safer and more exciting.
