PHOTOPHILE- Let it shine: Lawn joins the holiday spirit

Let there be light! That might have been the motto on the Corner on Thursday, November 30, as students, community members, and passers-by gathered on the north side of the Rotunda for the sixth annual "Lighting of the Lawn."

Presented by the Class of 2007 Trustees, the event featured several University student a cappella groups such as the Virginia Gentlemen, Virginia Bells, Black Voices, and ReMiX. UVA made one big shindig of the event as there were parties in almost all of the Pavilions and students and faculty brought their blankets, dogs, and children to enjoy this annual holiday fest.

Just like the lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in New York, there was a countdown to the flipping of the switch, but with a Cavalier twist. When the numbers reached seven, illuminated emblems of the Seven, Z and IMP Societies lit up on the Rotunda facade before the rest of the lights lining the Lawn side of the Academical Village.

How's that for a happy Wahoo holiday message?
