MY RIDE- Eleanor Miller: 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

It isn't often that people adjust their behind-the-wheel ways after many years on the road, but there's something different about Eleanor Miller's 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid.

"It's changed the way I drive," she says. "I have a gauge that tells me what part of my driving is being powered by gas. I've learned how to coast down hills."

That green-friendly approach to navigating combined with her hybrid engine has yielded a fuel economy of 33 miles per gallon– a staggering number for an SUV. But Miller says even that isn't the most unusual thing about her environment-friendly vehicle.

"When you're at a stoplight, the engine cuts off," she says. "It freaks people out when they ride with me, but I think that's part of what makes it the most fun car I've ever driven."
