LETTER- Call her madame

I enjoy reading The Hook and want to thank you for printing the piece on Carrie Weber [March 15: "Prodigal daughter: AHS alum lends French touch to fest"] . She was a classmate of mine, and I enjoyed attending her presentation at the Virginia Festival of the Book of her book Queen of Fashion: What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution.

Carrie was valedictorian of Albemarle High School in 1987, and placed first twice in the National French Exam. Her presentation on her book did not disappoint, and of course, her former French teacher from Albemarle High School (now retired) was there to hear her former student speak.

I wanted to point out a misquote in your article of her, though. This wonderful teacher who inspired generations of her students to achieve not only in French, but also challenged them to higher academic levels in general, was never known as Mrs. Lederman– as the article suggests– but always as "Madame." As Madame would say, "Moins dix points pour l'erreur!"
