PHOTOPHILE- Rolling along: Meals on Wheels celebrates 30 years

On Monday, May 21, volunteers from Meals on Wheels celebrated their organization's 30th anniversary with a meal quite unlike their, well, bread and butter. Yes, this was a meal of the stationary variety at the Omni Hotel with Mayor David Brown in attendance.

The non-profit group has been delivering regular victuals to the homebound and disabled since 1977, and the literally "fast food" operation doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Over the years, volunteers have served 750,000 meals– including 45,000 in 2006 alone.

Top volunteers were honored with certificates, and special recognition went to Jean Marshall, who has served Meals on Wheels since the rolling began 30 years ago.
