Worst trend, part 1: Fights between African-American youths in the Prospect Avenue and Forest Hills areas are videotaped and posted on Youtube, Henry Graff reports on NBC29. 

Worst trend, part 2: Home invasions. Cabell R. Clatterbaugh, 25, who had just been released from jail, is arrested July 27 for forcing his way into a home in the 300 block of Bennington Road and pistol-whipping the resident, the Daily Progress reports. This follows a July 19 home invasion on Park Street in which two men tie up the owners and take about $500 worth of belongings, as well as bank cards. 

Latest mall brawl: More than 20 people are fighting at Fashion Square Mall July 28 surrounded by 30 onlookers when police arrive. Adonis Gilmore, 19, and a 17-year-old are arrested.

Most frustrated with immigration: UVA doc Alaa S. Awad files suit against Homeland Security and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for not processing an employment authorization application he needs to continue working in the United States and for jeopardizing a $1 million grant that would fund diabetes research, according to Liesel Nowak in the DP.  Awad, an Egyptian citizen, has been at UVA since December 2001.

Least becoming nickname: A local blogger known as GADS has taken to calling the Albemarle Board of Supervisors the "Dupervisors" following a hasty August 1 vote to allow developer Wendell Wood to proceed with an office/residential complex near the National Ground Intelligence Center without following the county's normal lengthy protocol.

Best inside job: Police pin a spate of robberies over the past year at Carmike Theater on two 18-year-old employees who faked the heists, police say, not releasing their names because they were 17 at the time and have been charged as juveniles. Christopher Benck, 18, was charged in April with four robberies at the theater. 

Most wanted: Jason Scott Marshman is arrested July 23 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for the June 21 fatal shooting of William Miller Herndon on Hardy Drive.

Most JADE-d: The Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement task force takes 13 grams of crack cocaine off the street July 30, up two grams from a July 20 bust. Anthony Ray Reid, 19, is arrested on Hydraulic Road July 30 in connection with the bust. 

Worst loss of a civil rights icon: Oliver Hill, who represented plaintiffs in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education school desegregation case, dies August 5 at age 100.

Closest call: U.S. Attorney John Brownlee, whose district includes Charlottesville, lands on the Justice Department's hit list of prosecutors to fire when he ignores a DOJ request to hold up on a case against the manufacturer of Oxycontin, the Washington Post reports. Brownlee still has his job.

Fastest growing: PBM Products in Gordonsville makes Entrepreneur Magazine's Hot 500 list of fastest growing businesses, coming in at number 242, Jacob Geiger reports in the Progress.

Most generous: More than 50 percent of UVA Law School alums– a record 7,643– cough up $9.8 million in annual gifts, the largest one-year total to the school ever.

Best creative writing program: The Atlantic puts UVA's in the nation's top 10.

Most engaged: WCAV news anchor Beth Duffy is set to wed Albemarle police Sergeant Scott Cox in November, according to a July 29 announcement in the Progress.

Most determined to mow: Lawnmower-drivin' Glenn Bowers, 46, is arrested August 1 in Waynesboro with an alleged 0.24 percent blood alcohol level, the News Virginian reports. This is not Bowers' first DUI on a lawnmower.
