Chipotle under fire for hiring practices

It appears the Feds are cracking down on gourmet fast food burrito chain Chipotle Mexican Grill, one of which we have here in the Barracks Road Shopping Center, which was one of the first in the country to focus so heavily on locally sourced food.

It's being widely reported that the company is at the center of a continuing investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials into the company's hiring of illegal immigrants. According to Reuters, hundreds of Chipotle employees are believed to have been fired as a result of the probe. While investigators have been focusing on the company's presence in Minnesota, inspections are now taking place in restaurants in Washington, D.C., and Virginia.

“We've received a Notice of Inspection from Immigration and Customs Enforcement for our restaurants in Virginia," says Chris Arnold, Chipotle's (currently very busy) director of public relations."We've compiled all of the documents requested and provided them to ICE. ICE will conduct its review and we will continue to cooperate as they move forward with that process.”
