Queen City feast: Thrifty eatin' in Staunton

Better look out, Charlottesville food scene. Staunton is on the move. Fresh off a big article in Baltimore Magazine that called our neighbor to the west " one of the country's best-kept foodie secrets," the Queen City is spreading its wings with a Restaurant Week of its own March 21-27.

Just like Charlottesville's popular RW, you'll enjoy prix fixe menus with appetizer, entrée & dessert for just $15-$20-$25, with $1 of each meal going to The Valley Mission, at 10 area restaurants: Baja Bean, Byers St. Bistro, Cranberry’s Grocery & Eatery, Emilio’s, Mill Street Grill, Mockingbird, Sorrel’s Lounge at Stonewall Jackson Hotel, Staunton Grocery, Taste of India, and Zynodoa.

Check out the Staunton Restaurant Week website at stauntonyum.com to see the menus and get contact information if you have questions. And don't forget to make reservations soon!

Why isn't the restaurant in the train station participating? I have no idea if it's any good, but it's a restaurant in a train station. Hawes will surely agree with me that anything about trains is good.

Have to agree, train station restaurant is good and fun. I wonder if it is a franchise and that's why they aren't on board. Great to see this idea catching on and Staunton is a great town to visit. Wonderful architecture, lovely parks, and a quaint downtown.

The Pullman Restaurant has been closed for quite some time.

It's going to be a Macados.

Too bad Shenandoah Pizza isn't participating. Awesome pie.

I"m talking about the Depot Grille. I guess that it's in the old freight section of the station:

Looks good to me. And there's also one in Lynchburg, but I don't think that makes them more a chain than, say, Baja Bean.

Oh, and co-sign on the Shenandoah Pizza suggestion.

I gotta hand it to you guys, this is a brilliant idea. You can say what you want about Restaurant Week but it has certainly been successful. As a fan of many restaurants in Staunton, I'll be sure to check this out.
