The Clipse

Folks, let's have a hearty round of applause for the unfortunately-named fledgling Student Hip-Hop Organization at UVA, which delivers to us here what might just be the coolest Charlottesville hip hop show since Jay-Z steamrolled JPJ in 2008. The irony, of course, would be that they're from just down the road – The Clipse are arguably the new crown jewels of Virginia Beach hip-hop, having lapped superstars like Timbaland and Missy Elliott and Pharrell Williams when it comes to critical acclaim. Kanye West is also on board with that – younger Clipse bro Pusha T was featured heavily on last year's G.O.O.D. Fridays series. Big brother Malice, on the other hand, enthusiastically converted to Christianity in 2010 and wrote a book about it (SHHO also recently brought him to town to talk about that). This of course all puts an interesting spin on their lyrical material, which pretty much led to the creation of the term "coke rap" a few years back. Add in the recent move toward solo albums and the group's future starts to look a little hazy, so catch them here while you still can.

Also featuring Phil Ade, TiRon, and Nickelus F.
