Ending speculation: Katie Couric says she's leaving Evening News

Katie Couric, the UVA grad with the stellar broadcast news career, has ended weeks of speculation by announcing that she has decided to end her tenure at the helm of the CBS Evening News, leaving the chair long held by Walter Cronkite. The announcement came April 26 in an online story in People magazine. Couric, who frequently visits Charlottesville, most recently made a public appearance here in February for the opening of the cancer center dedicated in the name of her late sister, Emily.

Good, maybe we can get someone with talent and at least a partially believable impartial view to replace her. Unsurprisingly Charlottesville takes this opportunity to name drop even someone as forgettable as this.

Katie's final splash- Royal Wedding coverage CBS, 5 to 9 a.m.
