The LunchBox is on the move

The thing that you have to understand about The LunchBox, the "mobile restaurant" that has been operational since last September, is that the duo who operate the rolling eatery have been friends since they carried their lunch boxes to school.

Charlottesville natives Joseph Young and Daniel Heilberg have known each other from first grade through graduation from James Madison University's College of Business, and both have extensive experience in catering, bartending, serving, and cooking. So it's only natural they would go into business together. But why not start it in a building?

"With our background in the food industry combined with our interest in traveling and meeting new people," says Young, "we decided that a mobile kitchen was the thing to do."

If the weather permits, you'll find them on Emmet Street between Raising Cane's and KFC from 11am to 2pm Monday through Friday. They are also setting up at Darden Towe Park on Saturdays if the weather is good and they are not booked elsewhere. Look for them, too, at private parties and special events.

As for the food, we're talking things like kabobs, Philly cheesesteaks, grilled cheese sandwiches, onion rings, veggie and meat burgers, featured international dishes, and a changing menu.

When a restaurant has wheels, getting an order in can be tricky. But if you're web-savvy, you can follow them on Facebook by doing a search for "The LunchBox", on twitter @thelunchboxva, and on their website at thelunchboxva.com. Of course, you can also find out more the old fashioned way, by calling 444-CHOW (2469).
