Grub Street: Chang's tops in Virginia

The editors of Grub Street, New York Magazine's food section, recently "scoured" the country to find a restaurant in each state worthy of their readers' " food fanaticism" this summer. Their Virginia choice? Charlottesville's own Peter Chang's China Grill. Even before the eatery opened this past March in the North Wing of the Barracks Road Shopping Center, Chang had created a food buzz the likes of which Charlottesville had never seen.

That's settled down somewhat now, and after three months, the elusive chef is still here. But as the Grub Street editors advise, if you haven't been, go as soon as you can. You never know when the maetstro might pack up and leave.

One small correction on the Grub Street story. It refers to Chang's food as "brutally spicy Szechuan," and says that the tripe and tendon in chilli sauce "might burn your taste buds off." But that's a bit of an exaggeration. Yes, Chang's food is spicy, but Dish has had the tripe, and our taste buds are just fine.
