Plant life: Tufton Farm herb workshop

One of the hidden treasures at Monticello, or rather down the hill from Monticello, is Tufton Farm, one of the five satellite farms that Jefferson maintained, and home to the the Center for Historic Plants, which cultivates and maintains, you guessed it, historic plants; including Rose Border varieties first identified in the 1400s and a collection of Irises dating back 300 years. This Saturday, June 25, would be a good chance to check out the Center, as they are offering a a workshop to study culinary, medicinal, and fragrant herbs varieties that have been used for hundreds of years. Nursery manager Dennis Whetzel heads the workshop, which will run from 9:30am to11:30am. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at monticello.org or onsite.
