Hack away: Trim more

Okay, the idea of burying the power lines is impossible. [September 25 news: "Crossed wires: Why aren't those power lines buried?"]

How about the idea of trimming the trees that grow up, in, around, and through the wires? I admit it isn't a pretty sight when they hack off half of your prized maple tree, but perhaps some of the damage we suffered during this (and every) storm could be avoided.

In the six years I've lived here, I have never seen anyone from the power company preemptively trimming. Clearly (pun intended), my bias comes from living in New England, where the mighty oak gets a mighty whack if it grows near a line. The county, city and power company should put their heads together and come up with a plan before our first ice storm puts another strain on the rest of those dangling limbs.
