1976 City protects 97 scattered properties with designated status

1976 Court Square district expands to become the North Downtown district

1985 Downtown District (including the Downtown Mall) designated

1993 City names Ridge Street a designated district

1996 West Main Street district designated

1999 City designates Wertland Street Design Control District

2003 The Corner district, the City's sixth, is designated for protected status

2003 City announces that six new districts might be worthy of designation
