French Open-bound Marissa Irvin (right) beams after collecting her plaque and $7,200 check as the singles winner of the Boyd Tinsley $50,000 Women's Pro Championships. She beat 17-year-old wonder Jamea Jackson (left) in the May 16 final.

The 23-year-old fought off a strong challenge from the teenager who forced a tie-breaker in the second set. The tournament, at the Boar's Head Sports Club, is part of the USTA Pro Circuit that promises "tomorrow's stars today."

While this year's event lacked the presence of international hottie Anna Kournikova (who lost in the first round last year), it did include an impromptu rendition of "Happy Birthday" from the crowd to Tinsley on his 40th. The well-known fiddler says he expects the tournament to continue "for a long time to come." –Hawes Spencer
