Steel phoenix: Paramount Theater gets a stage

Work continues on recreating the grandeur of the historic Paramount Theater. One of the biggest structural changes is the addition of a stagehouse, whose steel was erected in April. As shown here in May, the new framework looms over Market Street. More important, the taller stagehouse will allow live performances to fly sets and hang lights over the stage. Built in 1931, the theater was originally intended solely for movies. The non-profit owner plans to unveil the results of its $14 million renovation by Thanksgiving.–Hawes Spencer
