He wasn't near the river

When Banastre Tarleton came to Charlottesville in 1781 to capture Thomas Jefferson, he did not camp at the Tarleton Oak or by the Rivanna River as stated in your story, "Hujavision" [cover, July 1, 2004], explaining how Huja tried to save the venerable oak tree.

Tarleton camped at "The Farm," owned at that time by Nicholas Lewis, half-way between those two locations. The history books attest to this fact, as does the state marker on East Jefferson Street. All that remains from the estate is the 1770 cook's house on 12th Street NE, the oldest extant house in the city.
